Revenues from income tax paid by individuals who rent out real estate have increased significantly in the first 11 months of 2025. According to the State Tax Service, between January and November the state collected 85.8 million lei — 27.3% more than in the same period last year.

The increase is attributed to information campaigns and voluntary compliance measures carried out by the authorities. As a result, 1,748 individuals who lease out real estate have been identified.

Additionally, during 231 tax inspections conducted among property owners renting out homes or other spaces, the Tax Service calculated an extra 527.6 thousand lei in base payments owed to the budget, 26.8 thousand lei in late-payment penalties, and fines totaling 31.4 thousand lei.

The Tax Service reminds that, under the Fiscal Code, individuals who are not engaged in entrepreneurial activity but lease out property must pay a 7% tax on the monthly rent. Lease agreements must be registered with the Tax Service within 7 days of signing, and the tax must be paid monthly, by the 25th of the current month.

The institution reiterates that tax obligations apply regardless of whether the properties are rented out directly or through platforms such as Booking, Airbnb, and others.
