Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri said that the current economic and energy crisis on the left bank of the Nistru River results from an unsustainable model in which the Tiraspol authorities rely on free energy resources. He noted that the state of emergency is not new, as authorities imposed it in previous periods, including at the end of 2024 and in 2025, and the risk of similar crises remains high.

Chiveri stressed that the issue is technical, not political, and relates to changing the paying agent for gas supplies under the European Union sanctions regime. He said that the Tiraspol authorities refused the offer from the Government of the Republic of Moldova, supported by European partners, to introduce a transparent mechanism for purchasing and paying for natural gas.

The deputy prime minister warned that without reforming this model, energy crises could recur every few months. He added that available information shows that authorities currently ensure gas supplies for the population and for social needs. Regarding the 60 million euros in assistance offered by the European Union, Chiveri said that the support remains available in emergency situations, but the authorities in Tiraspol must officially accept it.
