The Republic of Moldova will receive an additional €150 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to modernize key roads and strengthen connections with the European Union. On December 19 in Chisinau, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso signed an amendment to the loan agreement for Road Rehabilitation Project V.

The funds will finance the modernization and widening of the M2 Chisinau ring road, the rehabilitation of the M1 Chisinau–Leuseni section connecting directly to Romania, and the implementation of a Road Asset Management System using modern digital tools. The project supports Moldova’s integration into the TEN-T network, promotes economic development, and advances European connectivity and solidarity goals.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) noted that this financing is part of a larger EBRD-supported road rehabilitation program. To date, the bank has committed €692 million to modernize Moldova’s road infrastructure and invested nearly €2.9 billion across 193 projects in the country, with 64% of funds directed toward sustainable infrastructure.
