Banks in Moldova, in the red. Moldovans are withdrawing more and more money

Between January and November 2025, the volume of cumulative cash withdrawals from bank cash desks exceeded cumulative cash receipts in the banking system by 4,607.0 million lei, according to data from the National Bank of Moldova, reported by BANI.MD.

According to official information, during the reference period cumulative cash receipts totaled 166,976.1 million lei, marking an increase of 8,574.8 million lei, or +5.4%, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The largest share of cash receipts came from the sale of consumer goods, regardless of the sales channel. These amounted to 97,352.0 million lei, representing 58.3% of total receipts, up by 4,018.5 million lei (+4.3%) year on year.

At the same time, cash receipts credited to individuals’ current and deposit accounts reached 16,720.3 million lei, recording a significant increase of 2,331.0 million lei, equivalent to +16.2%.

The positive evolution of total cash receipts was also supported by other types of receipts, which totaled 23,374.3 million lei, an increase of 1,932.9 million lei, or +9.0%, compared to the same period in 2024.
