The Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Iwona Piorko, delivered a Christmas message to Moldovans, highlighting the country progress on its path toward the EU and the importance of family reunions during the winter holidays. The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, also sent a Christmas greeting focused on peace and unity in Europe.

Iwona Piorko said that 2025 marked a very good year for the Republic of Moldova and praised citizens for showing courage and confidence during elections watched worldwide. She stated that Moldovans clearly demonstrated the direction they want to take and said that the European Union welcomes Moldova with open arms.

The EU ambassador recalled key developments, including the conference on the screening results, the 1.9 billion euro financial package, and Moldova participation in SEPA. She noted that Moldovans with relatives in EU countries can now send money at lower costs and will benefit from free roaming starting January 1. She thanked citizens for their engagement and said she plans to continue visiting communities across the country.

Piorko wished Moldovans peaceful holidays and encouraged them to cherish time spent with their families, whether at home or abroad. She emphasized that the European Union wants what is best for Moldovan families and aims to support the country development in the coming year.

In a video message published on social media, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola congratulated EU citizens on the holidays and called for solidarity and unity. She stressed that peace should never be taken for granted.

For 2026, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu announced plans to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy with EU member states and reaffirmed that European integration remains the strategic priority of the Republic of Moldova.
