Christmas brought snowfall to Romania. Snow is falling in several regions, and meteorologists warn that blizzards, icy conditions, and strong winds will persist.

Road maintenance crews intervened with snow clearing equipment and spread anti skid materials, adevărul.ro reports. Traffic continues under winter conditions, especially in areas affected by blizzard conditions.

At the national level, the head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, convened a meeting with county prefects in response to the weather warnings currently in force. Several counties are under a yellow code for strong winds, snowfall, and icy conditions, while Caras Severin County is under an orange code for strong winds.

At 8:00 a.m., snow depth measured 9 cm in Calafat, 7 cm in Turnu Magurele, 6 cm in Craiova, 3 cm in Bucharest, 130 cm on Varful Omu, 34 cm at Balea Lake, 26 cm in the Calimani Mountains, and 15 cm in the Tarcu Mountains.

Until Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m., a yellow code for intensifying winds, blizzard conditions, snowfall, and icy roads remains in effect for Dobrogea, Muntenia, Oltenia, and southern Banat.

Intervention teams also worked at Romania airports to clear runways. At Otopeni International Airport, flights continue without delays or cancellations caused by weather conditions.

Meteorologists say mixed precipitation will continue across Romania until Friday morning. Starting Thursday, temperatures will drop significantly, reaching lows of minus 5 degrees Celsius. In the coming days, snowfall will increase in mountainous areas, and sub zero temperatures are expected on New Years Eve.
