Moldova’s Ambassador to the United States, Vlad Kulminski, announced that he met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his wife, Jeanette Rubio, to discuss bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States.
“I had the honor of discussing the bilateral relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the United States with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his wife, Jeanette Rubio. The dialogue will continue at the team level, with the clear objective of preparing a meeting that will deliver concrete results for both sides,” Kulminski wrote on social media.
The ambassador stressed that representing the Republic of Moldova in Washington is a deeply personal and significant responsibility, which he fulfills with respect for Moldovan citizens and with the conviction that the country deserves to be heard, understood, and taken seriously.
The meeting in Washington followed an official visit to the United States in early December by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi.
Previously, Kulminski said on the Rezoomat program on Realitatea TV that no meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio took place during that visit, despite a formal request.
“The only meeting that did not take place was with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It was requested, but in diplomacy such meetings require an agenda prepared to deliver very concrete results. Meetings did take place with the Secretary of State’s deputies, and this meeting will also be organized in the near future,” Kulminski explained.
Between December 2 and 10, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu paid a working visit to the United States. The Moldovan delegation also included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi and MP Ion Groza. In Washington, Moldovan officials met with members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, as well as with representatives of the State Department and the White House, including Andy Baker, Deputy National Security Advisor, and Charles McLaughlin, Senior Director for Europe and Russia.
