Moldelectrica announced that the first transactions on the Electricity Balancing Market have been completed, marking the launch of a new mechanism designed to maintain real-time balance between electricity production and consumption.
According to the transmission system operator, participants submitted the first bids and concluded the first transactions on December 31, 2025, after completing the qualification process and signing the required contracts.
The balancing market enables the system operator to respond promptly to imbalances in the electricity grid by purchasing additional power or reducing generation when actual consumption deviates from forecasts. This mechanism helps ensure the stable and secure operation of Moldova’s national power system.
The Electricity Balancing Market, along with the System Services Market, officially entered into force on September 22, 2025, following regulatory amendments approved by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE).
Moldelectrica representatives said the introduction of these markets marks a key step in modernizing Moldova’s wholesale electricity sector and aligning it with European market rules, which will be gradually implemented throughout 2026.
