Moldovan President Maia Sandu emphasized that EU enlargement strengthens Europe’s security rather than serving as an act of generosity. During her official visit to Poland, she highlighted Russia’s hybrid actions against Moldova, reaffirmed support for Ukraine, and underlined Chisinau’s commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in multiple areas.

Thanks to the support of international partners, including the Polish administration, Moldova stopped purchasing Russian gas, and trade with Russia now accounts for less than 4% of the country’s total. Sandu also noted that Moscow reportedly spent around 2% of its GDP trying to influence Moldova’s 2025 elections.

“Poland has a strong and credible voice in Europe, particularly regarding EU enlargement. We share a clear conviction: EU expansion is not an act of generosity. It is an investment in Europe’s security. Expanding the European Union extends its space of peace, stability, and shared values. Moldova fully commits to this path. We are making the necessary efforts because we believe in the European project and want to contribute to it,” Sandu said.

On Moldova’s cooperation with Poland, she emphasized growing economic ties and untapped potential. “Moldova wants to expand trade with Poland and attract more Polish investments—in agriculture and food processing, industry, infrastructure, energy, construction, IT, and the digital economy. Polish companies already operating in Moldova demonstrate the benefits of this partnership. We encourage other Polish entrepreneurs to see Moldova as a safe place for investment and a platform to access the wider region. Connectivity supports these ambitions: expanded air links and strengthened cooperation in transport and logistics bring our economies and citizens closer together. We aim to deepen these efforts further,” Sandu said.

She concluded by stressing that Ukraine is currently defending the security of the entire continent, and Poland’s military, political, and moral support reflects “a strong sense of solidarity and humanity.”
