Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that France’s decision to ban certain food products containing residues of pesticides not approved in the European Union will not directly affect the Republic of Moldova, BANI.MD reports.
Asked about the impact of the measure, the head of government said authorities also discussed the issue at the governmental level, including during meetings in Davos. He explained that French officials informed Moldovan authorities that the restrictions apply to all third countries, not only to Moldova, and represent a response to the detection of toxic ingredients in certain imported agri food products.
“Knowing our products, which are of good quality, we do not believe these measures will affect us. We continue dialogue with our French partners, but this is also a message to domestic producers to be very careful,” the prime minister said.
At the same time, Alexandru Munteanu stressed that large producers usually act with caution, but he recommended additional checks, including with the support of the National Food Safety Agency, to ensure that products do not contain even permissible doses of pesticides.
Starting February 8, 2026, France will officially suspend the import and sale on its territory of certain food products originating from non EU countries if authorities detect residues of active substances not approved in the EU, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
