Since January 1, after authorities introduced the simplified tax regime for independent economic activity, 680 freelancers have registered their status. Of these, 252 opened bank accounts, and 9 have already purchased cash register and control equipment.
Officials presented the data during a discussion on the new tax regime held on January 28. The Director of the State Tax Service, Olga Golban, stressed that the institution acts not only as a control authority but also as a partner to taxpayers in ensuring tax compliance.
“Together, we contribute to building the budget, so we take on the mission of providing the necessary support for the correct payment of taxes and duties,” Olga Golban said.
Participants highlighted the need to identify independent activity under an IDNO even when a person also works as an employee of a company. Any citizen may carry out independent activity in their free time, provided they follow the applicable legal and fiscal framework.
Freelancers must own a cash register and issue payment receipts for goods sold or services provided. The system automatically transmits this information to the tax authorities.
Under the tax rules, independent entrepreneurs pay a single tax of 15 percent if their annual income does not exceed 1,200,000 lei, and 35 percent on the portion of income that exceeds this threshold. Authorities then distribute the collected tax among the component budgets of the National Public Budget.
