The Kingdom of Norway will open a resident embassy in Chisinau, marking a new step in strengthening bilateral relations with the Republic of Moldova. Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi and his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, announced the decision in Munich, Germany.

Officials said that opening a resident diplomatic mission in Chisinau reflects the deepening of Moldovan-Norwegian relations and both states’ interest in expanding cooperation in areas of common interest.

The new embassy will help authorities implement joint projects more efficiently and intensify cooperation in energy, resilience, good governance, and support for Moldova’s European integration path.

“Opening a resident embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Chisinau sends a strong signal of confidence and strengthens the relations between our states,” Popsoi said.

After the bilateral talks, officials handed the verbal note on the establishment of the diplomatic mission to State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Carolina Perebinos.

Norway currently accredits its ambassador to the Republic of Moldova through the Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest. A territorial office that opened last year already operates in Chisinau.

Moldova and Norway established diplomatic relations in 1992.
