Irina Vlah addressed Mihai Popsoi and called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to examine the prospects for Moldova arising from cooperation with the “Peace Council,” reportedly created by Donald Trump. Vlah described the establishment of this organization as “an event of major importance internationally.”

She presented the Peace Council as an international organization that aims to promote stability, restore reliable and lawful governance, and ensure lasting peace in regions affected or threatened by conflict. In her view, the institution would provide an alternative framework for international cooperation in security and conflict prevention.

Vlah stressed that the areas the Peace Council plans to cover are highly relevant and of maximum importance to the Republic of Moldova.

“Unfortunately, our country did not receive an invitation to join this international organization. It is not difficult to understand why this happened. However, this does not mean that we should not make efforts to capitalize on the opportunities that have emerged. Given the above, Mr. Minister, I propose that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs examine all the prospects that cooperation with this new international organization could offer the Republic of Moldova and, setting aside certain subjective approaches as well as political and geopolitical interests of the current government, submit an official request expressing our interest in joining the Peace Council,” Vlah wrote.

The leader of the Heart of Moldova Party argued that potential accession to the Peace Council “should not be viewed as an affront to the United Nations, as some politicians and analysts claim.” She added that “the Republic of Moldova must be where its interests dictate. This means continuing to develop good relations with the UN, but also doing everything possible to capitalize on the opportunities provided by the Peace Council’s activities. In such important matters, we have no right to make mistakes as a country by positioning ourselves as correctly as possible. Other interests should be secondary, while the real interests of the Republic of Moldova must come first.”

Earlier, Mihai Popsoi said that Moldova had not received an invitation to join the organization and that “we cannot be everywhere.” Recently, Maia Sandu met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Munich Conference, where they discussed bilateral cooperation and regional security.
