Moldova Seeks US Support for Strategic Energy Projects at Gas Security Summit

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu will travel to the United States from February 23 to 25 to participate in the Transatlantic Gas Security Summit. He will attend the event alongside Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Director General for Energy at the European Commission.

US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum invited the Moldovan official. During the February 24 summit, participants will discuss the long term future of US Europe energy relations, risk reduction and deregulation, energy financing, liquefied natural gas, and the AI revolution.

The minister scheduled meetings with US officials, international financial institutions, and energy sector representatives. Dorin Junghietu will meet officials from the US Department of the Treasury, including Sara Thannhauser, Associate Director at the Office of Foreign Assets Control, to discuss compliance with sanctions regimes and their impact on the energy sector.

He will also meet Sajjad Shah, Director for Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank, and Eugene Rhuggenaath, Executive Director representing Moldova on the World Bank Group Board, to discuss financing opportunities for strategic energy projects. The agenda includes the construction of 55 MW combined heat and power plants in Chisinau, according to the Ministry of Energy.

The minister will hold talks with representatives of Black and Veatch, which is preparing the prefeasibility study for the Straseni Gutinasi power line. He will also meet members of Congress to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation in energy security.

Junghietu will visit the US Department of State to address bilateral cooperation priorities and continued US support for reforms and investments in Moldova energy sector. He will also meet representatives of the United States Energy Association and the Oil and Gas Association to analyze regional and global trends in natural gas, Moldova role in supply diversification initiatives, and the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor to strengthen regional energy security.
