Starting March 2, 2026, the European Union Entry Exit System will become operational at the following border crossing points: Leuseni-Albita, Sculeni-Sculeni, Leova-Bumbata, Giurgiulesti -Galati river port and railway, and Ungheni-Iasi railway.
The Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova announced that the system applies to citizens of non EU countries who travel for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180 day period. For each non EU citizen entering Romania through the operational crossing points, authorities will record the date and place of entry and exit, collect alphanumeric and or biometric data including a facial image and four fingerprints, and automatically calculate the duration of legal stay.
At the first entry after the system becomes operational, authorities will collect the required data. During subsequent trips, they will verify the data automatically, which will reduce waiting times at the border. Travelers can find additional information on the official European Union platform dedicated to the Entry Exit System.

Authorities have already activated the Entry Exit System at several border crossing points:
- Costesti Stinca Border Crossing Point, since October 12, 2025;
- Giurgiulesti Galati Border Crossing Point, since November 24, 2025;
- Cahul Oancea Border Crossing Point, since November 24, 2025;
- Lipcani Radauti Prut Border Crossing Point, since January 9, 2026.
