Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri is holding his first meeting with the so called Transnistrian foreign minister Vitali Ignatiev in Tiraspol.
At the beginning of the talks, Valeriu Chiveri said that Chisinau and Tiraspol maintain active correspondence, according to media outlets from the left bank of the Nistru. However, he stressed that direct dialogue can produce more concrete results.
“The time has come for us to meet in person. We have very active correspondence, but it does not replace direct contacts that can bring more concrete results,” Chiveri stated.
Vitali Ignatiev said that the administrations in Chisinau and Tiraspol must pursue common goals to protect citizens.
“I hope that our Moldovan colleagues will also see the problems not through the lens of politicized approaches, but through the concrete interests of the people,” he said.
The sides last met in the 1+1 format in the spring of 2025. They are holding the current meeting during the visit of Marko Shevchenko to the Republic of Moldova. Shevchenko serves as ambassador at large for the Transnistrian settlement process.
