The Republic of Moldova has not received any official notification regarding an alleged embargo on Moldovan wines in Ukraine, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova (MAIA) announced.

The authority stated that public discussions have referred to a possible decision and certain regulatory options currently under consultation between institutions. However, officials emphasized that these discussions are technical in nature, do not constitute an effective export ban, and do not amount to sanctions or trade blockages.

MAIA’s press service added that authorities in Chisinau remain in contact with their Ukrainian counterparts and that institutional dialogue continues in a constructive manner, aiming to prevent any measures that could affect domestic producers or bilateral trade relations.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry has not received any official notification from the Ukrainian authorities regarding possible restrictions on the import of wines or other wine growing products from the Republic of Moldova.

The national wine sector operates in line with international standards and trade commitments. Moldovan wines are present in more than 70 countries, consistently win awards at international competitions, and comply with European standards of quality, safety, and traceability,” the statement reads.

According to media reports from Kyiv, the Government of Ukraine prepared a draft decision this week to amend Resolution No. 1795 of December 31, 2025. The document reportedly introduces a licensing regime for imports of wine growing products from the Republic of Moldova until what Ukrainian authorities describe as discriminatory actions against Ukraine cease. The measure would apply to fresh grapes, wines, ethyl alcohol, and distillates, Ukrainian media reported.
