There are differing opinions within the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), and the formation needs to change something, said Igor Dodon, referring to possible tensions within the party. The Socialist leader stated that party members do not fight each other, despite holding different views on bilateral relations with the European Union and Russia.
Dodon also said he sees no chance of being convicted. According to him, some party members hope to take control of the formation if he ends up behind bars.
“Some hope that I will leave so they can take control. Some hope that I will be convicted and they will be able to take over the party, because otherwise they cannot. In two and a half years we will have the congress, and they have no chance under other scenarios,” Dodon said on TVC21.
The politician added that disagreements within PSRM concern how Moldova should negotiate its EU accession process. Some of his colleagues would accept any scenario, while others believe the state must also maintain strong economic relations with Russia.
