Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu urged specialists from the National Agency for Energy Regulation of Moldova (ANRE) to closely monitor energy supply to the left bank of the Dniester River.
Grosu stressed that the population in the Transnistrian region must receive support, while the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova must ensure compliance with international sanctions regimes.
He noted that ANRE periodically issues licenses for supplying energy resources to the Transnistrian region, including fuel and natural gas.
“We are talking about people. We are talking about our citizens. We are talking about enterprises. They are ours. We must take care of them, but carefully. That is probably the logic. Licenses are not granted for an unlimited period. I cannot recall now what the maximum duration is. They are issued periodically so that we can see whether everything is transparent: the origin of the money, the energy resources, where they come from, and so on,” Grosu said.
Until now, Tiraspol purchased gas from a company in Hungary, with payments processed through a firm in Dubai. After the war in the Middle East, authorities reported difficulties in processing these financial transactions.
