Several Moldovan citizens are being evacuated from the Middle East with assistance from Romania, using a route through Oman to Bucharest under the rescEU mechanism, part of the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism. The flight departed on 12 March from Dubai and is expected to arrive in Bucharest on 13 March, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.

Officials noted that in the United Arab Emirates, the security situation remains under control, with public services and infrastructure operating normally. Commercial flights continue from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, albeit in limited capacity depending on authorities’ and airlines’ decisions. The Moldovan Embassy in Abu Dhabi continues to provide consular support to citizens in the UAE and Bahrain.

In Israel, the state of emergency has been extended until 23 March 2026, while current restrictions remain in effect until 14 March 2026. In Qatar, airspace has been partially reopened for limited flights. The Moldovan embassy there has received 10 evacuation requests, resolved 16 cases, and has 3 under review. Around 60 citizens have requested information about departure options. Many who left Qatar traveled overland to Saudi Arabia (mainly Riyadh) or to Dubai, from where they continued by flights to European destinations or Istanbul. Some evacuations were supported by Romanian and Polish embassies.

Turkey remains an important transit point for Moldovan citizens leaving the Middle East. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ankara continues monitoring the situation and staying in contact with citizens. Meanwhile, the Embassy in Baku is following regional security developments and coordinating with local authorities and diplomatic partners.
