The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Culture of Greece will cooperate in the field of heritage conservation and restoration. Cristian Jardan and his counterpart from Athens, Lina Mendoni, signed a memorandum to this effect.
Lina Mendoni paid an official visit to Chisinau. During the meeting with Cristian Jardan, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cultural cooperation and on ways to protect and promote cultural heritage, including archaeological heritage.
“The experience of Greece in this sector is solid, and the Greek side expressed its willingness to provide support and expertise to strengthen the institutional framework and modernize archaeological legislation in the Republic of Moldova,” the ministry said.
The agreement will facilitate the exchange of expertise, the organization of training programs for specialists, and the development of joint projects in the field of heritage protection. The parties also expressed interest in launching professional cooperation programs, including study visits for specialists from museums in the Republic of Moldova, who will have the opportunity to benefit directly from the experience of museum institutions in Greece.
“Cultural cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Greece already has a solid foundation. I am convinced that the dialogue launched today will open new opportunities for collaboration between cultural institutions in the two countries,” said Cristian Jardan.
Another topic discussed was the Hellenic Imprint initiative, through which Greece aims to identify, document, and promote cultural and historical heritage associated with the presence of Hellenic communities in different regions of the world, including in the Republic of Moldova.
“The two ministries will work together to highlight the imprint of Hellenism—the Greek presence dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries—for the benefit of both countries,” said Lina Mendoni.
The ministers also discussed the activity of museums, the digitalization of museum heritage, and opportunities to attract European funds for cultural projects. They also reviewed the experience of Greece in implementing the Cash Rebate mechanism, which functions effectively and contributes to the development of the film industry.
