Driving licenses issued in the Republic of Moldova will be recognized in the United Arab Emirates following the entry into force of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments on the mutual recognition and exchange of driving permits.

The agreement allows Moldovan citizens to use their national driving licenses in the UAE during temporary stays without taking additional exams, in accordance with local legislation.

At the same time, Moldovan citizens residing in the UAE can exchange their licenses for ones issued by local authorities for category B vehicles, without sitting theoretical or practical exams.

The document aims to simplify and speed up administrative procedures, support the integration of Moldovan citizens, and ensure official recognition of documents issued by national authorities. The initiative is aligned with the 2024–2026 National Development Plan and contributes to ensuring full freedom of movement for the diaspora.

The memorandum was signed in Abu Dhabi on February 3, 2026.

So far, the Republic of Moldova has signed 11 similar agreements on the recognition of driving licenses.
