Security risks for the Republic of Moldova caused by drones entering its airspace sparked a heated exchange between Grigore Novac and Marcel Spatari during the TV program Cutia Neagra on TV8.
During the show, participants discussed the real danger posed by these drones, noting that some may carry explosives and warning that the lack of casualties so far represents “a dangerous lottery.” The host suggested that politicians with communication channels to the Russian Federation should intervene to help prevent such incidents.
Socialist MP Grigore Novac said such communication is possible but has not been initiated. He argued that authorities should act at a high level and claimed that the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova had not been asked by the government to intervene.
In response, PAS MP Marcel Spatari rejected cooperation with the socialists, stating that the PSRM maintains a subordinate relationship with Moscow. He emphasized that authorities communicate through official diplomatic channels, including via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, and that protest notes have already been sent regarding the incidents.
Authorities reported that on the night of March 17–18, a Shahed drone entered Moldova’s airspace near the Palanca border crossing. At around 01:46, border police observed the drone flying toward Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. It briefly reappeared between 02:14 and 02:25 before leaving the area.
On March 17, authorities also discovered fragments of another drone in the village of Tudora. They identified it as a Gheran-2 model carrying approximately 50 kilograms of explosive material.
