Igor Grosu said authorities managed the crisis on the Dniester River efficiently. He also stated that Oleg Ozerov, the accredited ambassador of the Russian Federation, should be summoned whenever incidents occur for which Russia is considered responsible.

Grosu stressed the need to strengthen the intervention capacity of state institutions. He also called for technical measures to activate artesian wells, boreholes, and other conserved water resources instead of relying solely on the Dniester.

“We must ensure that these alternative sources of drinking water are always in good technical condition. Then, you can quickly switch to another source and move forward,” Grosu said.

Asked how effective summoning the ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova is, Grosu said that Russia’s representative in Chisinau should be called in whenever necessary and confronted with incidents such as drone intrusions or water pollution.

Since March 15, authorities have maintained a state of alert in the Republic of Moldova over the Dniester after oil slicks were detected in the river. Officials say the pollution resulted from Russian bombardments of the Novodnistrovsk Hydropower Plant in Ukraine.

Residents of several northern localities, including Balti, were left without running water until March 19, when Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced the reconnection to the network. He added that water tests show pollutant levels within acceptable limits.
