The head of the National Crisis Management Center, Sergiu Diaconu, stated that authorities are making every effort to cover the electricity deficit and avoid mass outages in the Republic of Moldova. The announcement came after a Government meeting.

“For today, we have practically covered 100% of the demand. Every available megawatt has been collected, and the deficit of 350–400 megawatts should be covered. If citizens and the private sector follow the energy-saving recommendations, there should be no outages,” Diaconu said.

If deficits occur, the Ministry of Energy of Moldova will publicly announce any outages in advance. Authorities are continuing negotiations with domestic renewable energy producers and external partners to minimize risks in the coming days.

Diaconu emphasized that if outages become necessary, they will be limited in duration and applied according to a clear priority order:

  • Essential institutions such as hospitals, schools, religious institutions, and critical medical centers
  • Facilities and enterprises producing essential goods, including bread and other food products

As of today, a state of emergency in the energy sector has come into force for 60 days following attacks by the Russian Federation on infrastructure in Ukraine. The decision was adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and published in the Official Gazette.
