On Thursday, March 26, the government of the Republic of Moldova is set to approve a fare increase for road passenger transport, proposed by Vladimir Bolea. Interregional transport rates will rise from 75 to 87 bani per kilometer, and regional transport rates from 85 to 98 bani per kilometer, marking an overall increase of about 16%.

Minister Bolea emphasized that the adjustment is necessary to maintain services amid recent societal concerns and public pressure from transport operators, who had threatened route suspensions. He noted that the measure is controlled and proportional to market realities, ensuring that rural communities remain connected and citizens can safely reach work, school, or home.

Earlier on March 26, approximately 80% of regional and interregional routes were suspended due to rising operational costs and the lack of fare adjustments.

An extraordinary government meeting, presided over by Alexandru Munteanu, is scheduled for 2:00 PM on March 26 to approve the measure. The session is available to watch live on rlive.md and Realitatea TV.
