Ion Ceban has called on the government to lift the state of emergency in the energy sector. He also stressed that authorities cannot turn off street lighting in Chisinau, as such a measure would affect public safety.

Speaking at the start of a municipal services meeting, Ceban urged the Government to present a report on the actions taken since introducing the state of emergency.

“The capital has one million citizens—people who live and work here every day. This is not the Parliament hall, where a few lights can be turned off just for show. Here we are talking about security.

As for the state of emergency, we insist that it be lifted immediately and that a public report be presented on what has happened during these days,” the mayor said.

He also called for measures to reduce the impact of rising fuel prices, warning that increasing costs already affect municipal projects. According to him, construction materials have become more expensive, and some economic agents have informed city authorities that prices could rise by up to 300%.

So far, central public authorities have not commented on his statements.
