A Moldovan caregiver and an elderly man were assaulted on the evening of March 28, 2026, in a home in Parabita, Italy, by a man in a severe state of psychological disturbance.
According to Italian media, the attacker—a 30-year-old man from the Republic of Moldova, already known to law enforcement—forced his way into the house where the victims were staying. After threatening them, he turned violent, physically assaulting the caregiver and dragging her into the yard.
During the incident, he allegedly attempted to take her mobile phone and money. He was carrying a knife, and investigators later found a second blade in his backpack and seized it as evidence.
The elderly man’s daughter raised the alarm by calling emergency services, and a patrol already in the area arrived quickly at the scene. Subduing the attacker proved difficult. When he saw the Carabinieri, he reacted violently and attacked two officers, who were later hospitalized with injuries to their arms and legs.
Medical teams intervened, and after about an hour, authorities calmed the man and took him to the Carabinieri unit in Parabita.
He now faces charges including resistance, violence, threats, and injury against a public official, unlawful entry, and illegal possession of a bladed weapon. Authorities are investigating the case under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office in Lecce, while the suspect remains at liberty.
