Alexandru Munteanu reaffirmed the Government’s firm commitment to accelerating the process of accession to the European Union, stressing that this objective has become a strategic certainty. He made the statements at the Romania Government Roundtable conference organized by The Economist, where he presented Moldova’s progress and challenges in the current regional context.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Republic of Moldova is “building Europe at home” through tangible results, despite an external environment marked by multiple crises. He underlined that Moldova’s European path is no longer a hypothesis, but a matter of implementation speed.

Munteanu outlined several major challenges affecting the country, many linked to regional instability. These include attacks on energy infrastructure, pressure on the national energy system, pollution of the Dniester River, attempts to destabilize democratic processes, rising fuel costs, and logistical difficulties.

“Moldova moves forward despite these challenges. Accelerating the accession process is our firm commitment and an important factor of stability for the entire region,” he said.

He added that the government’s agenda focuses on modernizing the state and creating an attractive economic environment. Authorities are prioritizing the digitalization of public services and reducing bureaucracy to offer greater predictability to foreign investors.

On the social front, the Executive is focusing on investments in critical infrastructure, including access to drinking water, energy security, and improving medical services. These areas are seen as essential for aligning living standards with those in the EU.

The Prime Minister’s participation in the roundtable highlights Moldova’s openness to international dialogue and its determination to attract support for its European integration, at a crucial moment for the stability of South-Eastern Europe.

Munteanu will also pay an official visit to Bucharest on March 31, 2026, where he will take part in the same event alongside political leaders and representatives of the business community from Romania, Europe, and the United States.
