Thousands of believers from the Republic of Moldova and across the Orthodox world are closely watching Jerusalem with concern during this period. Authorities in Israel have closed the airspace to civilian flights and will keep Ben Gurion Airport non-operational at least until April 16, four days after Orthodox Easter.

In this context, Siluan Salari from the Metropolis of Moldova told our newsroom that the Moldovan delegation is ready but awaits confirmation:

“We are waiting for a miracle. Our delegation is ready to leave for Jerusalem; we are waiting for confirmation, and negotiations are ongoing,” he said.

According to the latest information from Romania, organizers will hold the Holy Fire ceremony under extremely restrictive conditions, allowing only 50 people into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, including Theophilos III of Jerusalem and a small number of clergy.

At the same time, organizers will bring the Holy Light to Romania via a special flight corridor on Holy Saturday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova has also issued a warning today, urging citizens to postpone any planned travel to Israel and to avoid pilgrimages during this period. Authorities warn that they may extend or change restrictions without prior notice.
