The Farmers’ Force warns that micro, small, and medium-sized farmers in the Republic of Moldova face an “almost catastrophic” situation and calls on the authorities for urgent intervention, otherwise threatening protests.

In a statement addressed to the country’s leadership—the Government, Parliament, and Presidency—farmers from Hancesti District say that natural disasters, energy crises, and increased imports have marked four of the past five years, while the state has provided “minimal” support.

They accuse that rising fuel prices by over 60%, the intention to increase VAT to 20% for agricultural production, and the lack of effective subsidy policies are leaving them with no real chance of survival.

“We are in a situation where we have nothing left to lose,” the farmers warn, arguing that the current agricultural model favors large companies and harms local producers in rural areas.

The farmers call for a set of urgent measures, including full reimbursement of excise duties on diesel used in agriculture, partial compensation of VAT for fuel, abandoning the VAT increase for agricultural production, access to European funds for direct support, maintaining subsidized interest rates on loans, introducing direct payments per hectare following the European model, implementing refinancing mechanisms with state guarantees, and stopping the forced creation of agricultural chambers.
