The European Union has extended its restrictive measures until April 29, 2027, targeting individuals and entities “responsible for actions aimed at destabilizing, undermining, or threatening the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova.”
According to a press release from the European Council, the sanctions apply to 23 individuals and 5 entities. Those listed include Ilan Shor, Vlad Plahotniuc, Marina Tauber, and Victoria Furtuna, leader of the “Moldova Mare” Party.
The sanctions impose asset freezes on all listed individuals and entities. They also prohibit anyone from making funds or economic resources available to those targeted, either directly or indirectly. In addition, authorities ban listed individuals from entering or transiting through any EU member state.
The European Union introduced these measures in 2023 at the request of authorities in Chișinău to counter efforts to destabilize the country.
