This week, Chisinau will host the sixth national Internet Governance Forum (MIGF 2026), bringing together more than 40 experts from Moldova and other countries to discuss key issues on the digital agenda and emerging technological challenges. MIGF will serve as a platform to explore how expert discussions can be translated into practical solutions capable of strengthening Moldova’s position in the global digital ecosystem.

As technologies continue to evolve rapidly, it is becoming essential for Moldova to shape a resilient model of digital development in which innovation is aligned with the protection of users’ rights and interests. Convened annually by the Comunitatea Internet Association, the forum enables all relevant voices to be heard and creates conditions for developing transparent and effective approaches to Internet governance.

This year, the Moldova Internet Governance Forum will focus on issues that are becoming increasingly important for Moldova and the wider region, ranging from the European digital agenda and the resilience of the digital ecosystem to infrastructure security, digital rights, inclusion, and new forms of cyber threats. MIGF will become a space for open multistakeholder dialogue, where the global digital agenda connects with local priorities and the real needs of society.

“Today, digital governance is not only a conversation about technology, but also about rights, trust, opportunities for participation, and about how resilient, secure, and fair the digital environment will be for people,” said Alexei Marciuc, Chairman of the Comunitatea Internet Association and National Coordinator of MIGF. In his view, digital policy should be shaped through continuous interaction among government, the technical and expert communities, business, researchers, and international actors.

“Only such an approach makes it possible to develop solutions that simultaneously support innovation, strengthen security, respect users’ rights, and respond to the country’s long-term development interests. At a time of upcoming regulatory changes, it is especially important that this conversation takes place openly, professionally, and with the participation of all interested stakeholders,” Alexei Marciuc stressed.

In addition to the main sessions, the forum programme also includes special events, including Moldova Universal Acceptance Day 2026. The Comunitatea Internet Association is organising it for the second consecutive year together with international partners to discuss issues related to Universal Acceptance, the multilingual Internet, the accessibility of digital services, and more inclusive digital development. Such initiatives take place across all regions of the world and underline that any discussion about the future of the Internet is impossible without attention to linguistic diversity, technical interoperability, and the removal of barriers to full digital participation.

The MIGF partner ecosystem brings together international and national organisations committed to building an open, secure, and inclusive digital environment. International partners include the UN IGF, UNESCO, the Internet Society, ICANN, IGFSA, RIPE NCC, SEEDIG, the SecDev Foundation, Access Now, as well as TikTok, one of the most popular digital platforms in Moldova.

At the national level, MIGF partners include the National Regulatory Agency for Communications (ARCOM), the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service, as well as expert organisations, academic institutions, representatives of the business community, the electronic communications sector, and public associations.

The IGF (Internet Governance Forum) is a global initiative under the auspices of the United Nations that has demonstrated its value worldwide over many years. Its main strength lies in its openness: it is a multistakeholder platform for public policy dialogue where governments, the private sector, civil society, the technical community, and academia participate on an equal footing.

MIGF 2026 is open to everyone interested in discussing the future of the digital environment in Moldova and beyond. Participation is possible both in person and online. Registration is open on the official website igf.md.
