“We will only bring benefits.” This is how Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu responded to a letter from representatives of the so-called “Supreme Soviet” in Tiraspol, who requested the continuation of tax incentives for the region.

According to Grosu, the new regulations will benefit citizens. He said that, as a result, people in the Transnistria region will gain access to higher-quality services.

“Education, healthcare, energy efficiency projects, and other important things for our citizens. You will see—even those who signed this appeal will see that it is for the benefit of the people,” Igor Grosu stated.

The so-called Supreme Soviet in Tiraspol addressed Parliament in Chisinau, complaining about a lack of dialogue. In a letter sent to Grosu, the separatist authorities expressed “deep concern” over the planned removal of tax benefits for the Transnistrian region.

Authorities will begin phasing out these fiscal incentives in June 2026. They will introduce excise duties on products such as alcohol and tobacco and remove VAT exemptions for natural gas supplied to the region. These will then be taxed under general rules, including the application of a reduced national rate.

Authorities will gradually expand these measures, and by 2030 they plan to eliminate all existing tax exemptions for economic agents on the left bank of the Nistru River.
