Kaja Kallas stated in Chisinau that the European Union will demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria if it enters negotiations with the Russian Federation regarding peace in Ukraine.

According to the European official, the current negotiations are not producing significant results. Kallas said that EU member states must determine what demands they want to present during talks if they decide that negotiations with the Russian side are necessary.

“With regard to the Republic of Moldova, we will put forward the demand to remove Russian troops from Transnistria,” Kallas announced.

Authorities in the Republic of Moldova have repeatedly stated that the presence of Russian troops stationed on the left bank of the Dniester River remains the main obstacle to resolving the Transnistrian conflict. Earlier, Maia Sandu said that Moldovan authorities and European partners are discussing possible solutions to the issue.

Western media recently reported that the European Union is preparing for possible discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding Ukraine. António Costa also confirmed that such discussions remain possible.
