This morning, prosecutors and officers from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, together with officers from the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) and the General Police Inspectorate, carried out dozens of searches in several prisons and other locations across the country. The operation received support from the Ministry of Justice, as well as officers from the Interior Ministry’s special forces units, including the “Fulger” Special Police Brigade and the “Pantera” Special Operations Unit.

“The actions took place within a criminal investigation targeting possible acts of active and passive corruption committed by individuals involved in implementing and applying the amnesty granted on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Moldova’s independence, as well as in the application of Articles 91 and 92 of the Criminal Code. The corruption acts also involved persons sentenced to imprisonment. The criminal scheme resulted in the release from detention of several individuals sentenced to life imprisonment,” the Prosecutor General’s Office stated.

Authorities said that criminal investigation actions continue in order to establish all circumstances of the case and identify everyone involved.

At the same time, officials reiterated the principle of the presumption of innocence until a final court ruling is issued.
