The Centru Court of Appeal will examine the appeal against the conviction of Vlad Plahotniuc on August 24, according to information published on the courts’ official portal.

The court sentenced Vlad Plahotniuc to 19 years in prison in the case commonly known as the “bank fraud” case. Both the defense and the prosecution challenged the sentence.

Anti-corruption prosecutors seek a harsher sentence and insist that the court sentence Vlad Plahotniuc to 25 years in prison. Meanwhile, the former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) argues through his lawyers that prosecutors failed to present relevant evidence.

The court convicted Vlad Plahotniuc on April 22, 2026, after authorities in Greece extradited him to the Republic of Moldova in the summer of 2025. He left Moldova in 2019 following the fall of the PDM government.
