The Republic of Moldova is placing increased emphasis on strengthening its tourism sector through initiatives focused on domestic tourism development, workforce skills and industry competitiveness.
A national conference on domestic tourism development and an international forum on tourism skills were held on May 26 in Chisinau, bringing together representatives of public authorities, tourism and HoReCa businesses, educational institutions, development partners and international stakeholders. The event focused on strengthening cooperation across the sector and improving long-term competitiveness.
Discussions addressed key priorities for the development of Moldova’s tourism industry, including the expansion of domestic tourism, professional training, improvement of service quality, and regional development. Participants also examined the alignment of Moldova’s tourism sector with European standards and skills initiatives.
A central theme of the conference was the importance of cooperation between public institutions, the private sector, academia and international partners in building a more resilient and competitive tourism ecosystem. Tourism was highlighted not only as a promotional sector, but also as an important driver of employment, regional development and skills formation.
The event took place as Moldova continues efforts to promote its tourism potential, including wine tourism, cultural heritage and rural tourism experiences. Strengthening workforce skills and improving service standards were identified as key factors for attracting more visitors and supporting the sector’s growth in the coming years.
