Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita said that Moldova’s fiscal policy aims to preserve citizens’ purchasing power despite concerns about rising prices. Speaking on Moldova 1, he argued that discussions about price increases are “greatly exaggerated” and stressed that policymakers should focus on incomes rather than prices alone.

According to the minister, the key difference between Moldova and developed countries is not necessarily the level of prices, but the stronger purchasing power that comes with higher incomes.

“Our objective is to streamline the tax system, including taxes, exemptions, and incentives, so that it becomes fairer and more efficient. At the same time, we must ensure that people’s incomes do not decline,” Gavrilita said.

He also assured that the government would accompany any price or cost adjustments in certain sectors with measures designed to protect citizens.

“It is the Government’s responsibility and mandate to ensure that people’s incomes do not decrease and that purchasing power is maintained,” he stated.

Gavrilita reiterated that the primary goal of fiscal policy is to create a balanced tax system and establish sustainable conditions for increasing household incomes.
