PAS leader Igor Grosu announced that the party will propose businessman Vasile Tofan for the position of prime minister during consultations with President Maia Sandu.

Grosu said he spent several hours discussing the nomination with Tofan. According to the PAS leader, the businessman shares the party’s vision, including Moldova’s accession to the European Union in the coming years, the cleansing of state institutions, sustainable economic growth, and the implementation of key reforms that are already underway.

“It is a great honor, but I recognize the gravity of this moment. It is a tremendous responsibility because people’s expectations are high. I cannot say I have answers to every question, but I will devote all my energy, talent, and experience to achieving what we have set out to accomplish. Our goal is to complete the integration process and sign the EU accession agreement in 2028,” Tofan said in a video published on Igor Grosu’s Facebook page.

In addition to businessman Vasile Tofan, acting Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu is also considered a possible nominee and is reportedly backed by Moldova’s international development partners.

President Maia Sandu began consultations with the parliamentary opposition on July 10, but none of the opposition parties attended the meetings. PAS is expected to meet with the president on Saturday, July 11.
