PAS lawmaker Alexandru Trubca announced on July 10 that he has submitted his resignation from Parliament. He made the announcement in a Facebook post.
“Today I submitted my resignation as a member of Parliament. Given that questions surrounding my business activities affect the image and credibility of the entire team, I cannot act differently. Everything I have said publicly still stands. The National Integrity Authority (ANI) will complete the verification that I personally requested and issue its conclusions. It is a positive sign that, after five years in Parliament with the Party of Action and Solidarity, we are discussing the ethics and morality of public officials’ business activities. Just a few years ago, we were talking about ‘black bags of cash,’ organized criminal groups that had captured the state, and hidden cameras in the homes of independent journalists. I hope my resignation will raise the standards of the political class for all current and future public officials in this country. Whenever there is even a question of ethics or morality, you step down. That is how I see things, and that is how I choose to act. I remain a member of the PAS team and will continue working to help achieve our generation’s goal: Moldova’s accession to the European Union,” Trubca wrote.
Earlier this week, Trubca publicly disclosed and defended his real estate business activities during a press briefing. He said that in September 2024 he had been offered the opportunity to purchase a 0.8-hectare plot of land in Trușeni.
His remarks came ahead of an investigative report by TV8 focusing on his business dealings. Trubca said he decided to address the issue publicly to avoid damaging the image of PAS. He also argued that Moldovan law does not prohibit public officials from engaging in business activities.
