European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos praised Moldova’s reform progress on Monday, describing the country as the “best-performing student in the class” as it officially opened negotiations on Cluster 6 – External Relations in its EU accession process.

Speaking in Brussels, Kos commended the Moldovan authorities for their work, highlighting Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov while stressing that further reforms are still needed.

She said Moldova must continue making progress in the areas of justice, media pluralism, and the fight against corruption.

“Moldova is truly doing well. There is a genuinely excellent approach from the government, and I hope the new prime minister will continue advancing reforms in areas where there will be no turning back,” Kos said.

She added that irreversible reforms mean establishing a genuine rule of law in which “there are no oligarchs with special rights.”

On July 14, Moldova officially opened negotiations on Cluster 6 – External Relations during the Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels. The Moldovan delegation was led by Acting Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu.
