Marcin Romanowski has not entered the Republic of Moldova, the International Police Cooperation Directorate of Moldova’s General Inspectorate of Police said.
According to the authorities, they also have no indications that the former Polish deputy justice minister, who is wanted in a corruption case, is hiding in Moldova’s Transnistrian region.
“Moldovan authorities maintain a constant exchange of information with their Polish counterparts, both through secure police cooperation channels and by telephone, to verify available information and clarify the situation,” the International Police Cooperation Directorate said in a statement.
The directorate also told Realitatea that Moldovan authorities are in contact with their Polish counterparts “to clarify all relevant circumstances and establish any information related to the case.”
Polish authorities said on Wednesday, August 12, that Romanowski, who is wanted in Poland over alleged corruption offenses, is currently in Transnistria. According to Polish officials, they received a letter in which the former official claimed to be in Tiraspol.
Moldova’s Bureau for Reintegration Policies said it has limited means to verify whether Romanowski is hiding in the Transnistrian region. The bureau told Realitatea that it has no information about the case and has not received any official requests from Polish authorities.
Romanowski, a former deputy justice minister of Poland, is wanted by Polish authorities in connection with a corruption investigation.
