Moldova and Turkiye Discuss Economic Cooperation, Investment and Development of Gagauzia

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met with a delegation of Turkish MPs to discuss strengthening economic cooperation, attracting investment, and supporting the development of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.

The Turkish parliamentary delegation was led by Kursad Zorlu, Vice President of Turkiye’s Justice and Development Party (AK Party).

During the meeting, Tofan described Turkiye as a key partner for the Republic of Moldova and said Chisinau wants to further strengthen bilateral relations through cultural ties, investment, and closer economic cooperation.

The officials also discussed the development of Gagauzia, highlighting the importance of preserving the region’s identity while creating more economic opportunities for its residents.

The Moldovan Government noted Turkiye’s contribution to the region, saying Turkish partners have implemented more than 500 projects in Moldova, around 90% of them in Gagauzia.

Another topic was expanding Turkish investment in Moldova. Around 1,200 companies with Turkish capital currently operate in the country, according to the Government.

The Turkish MPs expressed interest in new investment opportunities, including the development of production capacities. Potential areas discussed included industry, renewable energy, tourism, including medical tourism, and telecommunications.
