Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met with representatives of business process outsourcing (BPO) companies operating as residents of Moldova IT Park (MITP), with discussions focusing on economic development, the business environment and the government’s priorities.

Tofan assured the companies that the government would continue supporting businesses that invest in the Republic of Moldova. He also emphasized that the government does not plan to change the special tax regime applicable to MITP residents, providing greater predictability for companies operating in the sector in the coming years.

Representatives of the BPO community highlighted challenges faced by a relatively new and rapidly developing sector, where regulations do not always keep pace with emerging business models.

The BPO sector currently employs around 6,000 people and offers competitive salaries, creating attractive career opportunities for young people and contributing to their retention in Moldova’s labor market.

Company representatives called for a balanced approach from authorities, continued dialogue and solutions that would allow businesses to address any identified regulatory non-compliance without disrupting their operations.

Government Calls for Proportional Inspections

The discussions also addressed inspections of economic operators.

Tofan said the government supports inspections that are proportionate to the nature of identified violations and opposes unnecessarily forceful interventions.

According to the prime minister, law enforcement should be balanced with efforts to maintain a predictable and business-friendly environment.

The meeting also covered new technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as Moldova’s opportunities amid the rapid development of AI.

The sides discussed measures that could help the country maintain its competitiveness in the digital sector and further develop Moldova’s technology-driven economy.
