Socialist MP and former Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii appeared before judges at the Supreme Court of Justice on Monday to testify in the “Kuliok” case, in which former President Igor Dodon is the defendant.
Greceanii’s lawyers informed the court that she had limited time available because she was also scheduled to attend an extraordinary parliamentary session convened for Monday.
The Supreme Court’s press service broadcast only the opening of the hearing, while the testimony itself was not broadcast.
What Is the “Kuliok” Case?
The case, commonly known as the “Kuliok” case, is based on video footage recorded in June 2019, showing then-Democratic Party leader Vladimir Plahotniuc handing Igor Dodon a black bag.
Prosecutors claim the bag contained between $600,000 and $1 million, allegedly intended to finance the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM).
Dodon denies the allegations and maintains his innocence, claiming that the footage was manipulated.
He is charged with passive corruption and accepting illegal financing for a political party. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
