The parliamentary faction of Partidul Nostru has submitted a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding how domestic violence cases involving employees of institutions under the ministry are handled and communicated to the public. The announcement was made by Elena Gritco, deputy chair of the faction.
According to the MP, the request was prompted by several cases that have drawn public attention, but the issue raised is broader and concerns the transparency of state institutions.
“We see that a case receives extensive coverage when it reaches the press or social media, but afterward, society learns very little about what the authorities actually did, and especially about the outcome of the checks or investigation,” Gritco said.
She referred in particular to the most recent case involving an employee of a law enforcement agency, as well as other cases that have sparked public reactions, including the Vartic case and the case in Magdacesti.
“When official information is missing or insufficient, it is always replaced by news reports, statements, assumptions and interpretations, and people end up drawing conclusions without knowing all the facts or what the competent authorities actually established. The Partidul Nostru parliamentary faction believes this situation must change,” Gritco said.
The faction’s deputy chair stressed that the request does not seek the disclosure of information protected by law, but rather information about how such cases are examined and the results of the checks.
“We are not asking for personal data or information that cannot legally be made public to be disclosed. We are asking state institutions to communicate within the limits of the law whether an investigation has been launched, who is conducting it, what measures have been taken and, once the procedures are completed, what the outcome was. At the same time, we believe it is important to have the same rules and the same standard of transparency in all cases, regardless of who is involved,” she said.
Gritco also emphasized that when police officers or employees of other institutions under the Interior Ministry are involved, safeguards must be in place to ensure that investigations are impartial.
“In this regard, we are asking whether there is a clear procedure for such situations and how the impartiality of the checks is ensured,” Elena Gritco said.
Partidul Nostru has also requested statistical data for 2024-2026 on cases involving Interior Ministry employees in situations of domestic violence, the number of internal investigations launched and their outcomes.
“Not to expose individuals or case files, but to understand whether there is a functioning mechanism and whether the institution has a consistent practice in such situations. For us, it is important that society learns not only about an allegation, but also about what the authorities established in the end,” the MP said.
Gritco added that a lack of official information can contribute to growing distrust in state institutions.
