The decision to declare a 60-day state of emergency in Moldova’s energy and hydrological sectors was published in the Official Gazette on September 23. The measure will take effect on September 26, 2026.
During the state of emergency, authorities will be able, depending on how the situation develops, to purchase equipment needed for critical infrastructure through accelerated procedures and temporarily simplify procedures for installing storage systems, generators and other emergency capacities, Moldpres.md reports.
If necessary, authorities will also be able to temporarily adjust the operating conditions of heating systems and introduce temporary regulatory or fiscal measures in response to extreme shocks on the gas or fuel markets.
If the hydrological situation deteriorates, authorities will be able to prioritize drinking water supplies, temporarily restrict non-essential water use and rapidly mobilize pumps, generators and other necessary resources.
Parliament approved the 60-day state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors on Tuesday, September 22, with 54 votes.
