Each of the four countries that received roadmaps for EU accession will have the right to request membership once it completes the steps outlined in the documents, according to Adrian Balutel, head of the Moldovan Parliament’s Committee on European Integration.

Speaking on the “Pe fata” program on Moldova 1, Balutel said that EU integration would depend on each country’s individual performance. He noted that Moldova is already more advanced than some other candidate countries in certain areas, including the implementation of reforms.

“The message we receive from Brussels, and which we are focusing on, is that the enlargement process is merit-based. Our goal is to complete the negotiations by the end of 2028. We have a clear message, and the roadmaps reconfirm this. Once we follow this accelerated path and complete all the stages, we will have the right to request the technical closure of the negotiations. Each country will be assessed individually. Why were these roadmaps created? Because all four countries have the same objective of completing the negotiations by the end of 2028,” Balutel explained.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced that Moldova, Ukraine, Montenegro and Albania will receive their EU integration roadmaps on October 28.

The documents are expected to clearly set out the next steps in the accession process, as well as the priorities, deadlines and results Moldova will need to achieve in order to join the European Union.
