Electricity Prices in Moldova Could Be Adjusted as Procurement Costs Rise

Electricity prices could be adjusted depending on changes in procurement costs, but the possibility of such a decision will become clearer once the average purchase prices for October are known. Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu made the statement during a programme on Exclusiv TV.

According to the official, the average electricity procurement price continues to rise because peak-hour demand is being covered with more expensive electricity. The market operates in 15-minute intervals, while electricity contracted through bilateral agreements with constant deliveries is limited.

The minister explained that although bilateral contracts provide greater stability, they do not always cover total consumption. During periods of high demand, the shortfall is covered through purchases at higher prices, affecting the average cost of electricity.

“The average procurement price continues to rise. The possibility of an adjustment, and whether it would be justified, may become clearer. The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) will, of course, issue its assessment, as this falls within its remit. The situation may become clearer towards the end of October or the beginning of November,” Junghietu said.
